Anita Heiss

{{refimproveAnita Heiss (born 1968) is a contemporary Australian author of Austrian and Indigenous Australian descent.

Anita Heiss is from the Wiradjuri people though she grew up in and lives in Sydney.^[1][2] Her mother was brought up in a Catholic mission and her father is originally from Austria.^[3] She grew up in the suburb of Matraville and attended St Clare's College. She is currently an associate professor at Macquarie University, a director of the Gadigal Information Services and Koori Radio and deputy chairperson of the Australian Society of Authors. Her most recent work is the novel Paris Dreaming which was published in 2011. Apart from performing her work at festivals around Australia and internationally Heiss has also recently written and directed her first short film Checkerboard Love.
