Plot

Following up on his critically successful 1944 debut Udayer Pathay, Bimal Roy directs this political drama about the collusion of the pre-independence aristocracy and bourgeois business interests against the common man. When a local mining company has the audacity to provide its workers a fair wage for a fair day's work, and lets its workers unionize, the kingdom's villainous potentate is less than pleased. After considerable pressure, the company agrees to blame unrest in the region on a blameless worker collective. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi
