Annabelle Apsion (born 22 March 1963) is an English actress, best known for playing Monica Gallagher in the hit television comedy-drama Shameless, which she played intermittently between 2004 and 2006, before becoming a regular cast member for the show's fourth series in 2007. She left the show in 2008 in order to pursue other projects, with her final scenes airing in March 2009.[1] However, she returned to the role in 2011.[2][3]

Career

Apart from Shameless, Apsion is also well known for her portrayals of Joy Wilton in Soldier Soldier, Betty in My Good Friend, Beverly in The Lakes, Patricia Hillman in Coronation Street, and Mrs. Beech in Michelle Magorian's Goodnight Mister Tom.[4]

Films she has appeared in include Tulse Luper Suitcase as Mrs Haps-Mills, May 33 as Jenny, Flight of Fancy as Honey, About a Boy, From Hell as Polly, The War Zone, Lolita, This Year's Love and The Wrong Blonde.[5] She appeared in an episode of Lewis in May 2010.[6]

She has the rare achievement of appearing in two separate episodes of Midsomer Murders as two different characters, Death in Chorus and Dead Man's 11. She also played a part in the docu-drama about the Hillsborough Disaster, which aired in 1996 and told the story of the 1989 football tragedy.[7]

She has appeared as a guest panellist on Five's The Wright Stuff during 2008 and 2009.[8]

She played a small role in the first episode of the family sitcom In with the Flynns.

Personal life

Apsion is a former student of Godalming College and the University of Wales.[9][10] She is also co-founder and practitioner of the Rosen Method Bodywork in the UK, an alternative health practice which integrates mind and body.[11] Annabelle is single and has never had children herself.[12][not in citation given]
