Annapolis: Municipal Government

Annapolis is the capital of Maryland and the seat of Anne Arundel County. The Annapolis city council includes eight aldermen, who serve four-year terms and the mayor, who presides at meetings. Each alderman represents one of eight wards, or geographical areas, of the city. The mayor serves full-time as the chief executive officer of the city and may serve two consecutive four-year terms. City services are provided by 10 departments staffed by some 550 full-time employees.
