Anne de Bellinzani Ferrand

French Literature Companion: Anne de Bellinzani Ferrand

Ferrand, Anne de Bellinzani, présidente (1657-1740). French writer known for her novels of women unhappily married, especially the Histoire nouvelle des amours de la jeune Bélise et de Cléante (1689). Her Lettres galantes (1691) is a one-sided epistolary novel indebted to the Lettres portugaises. Ferrand's own unhappy marriage to a prominent magistrate was fabled; it ended in legal separation in 1686.
