Biography
She was brought up in a sexually-repressive Mormon family.[2] Before her success in porn, Haven worked as a nurse's aide, exotic dancer at the Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theatre in San Francisco, and massage parlor girl in the San Francisco Bay area.
Part of her reason for entering porn was that she wanted to show that sex was not sinful.[2] Haven's first film was in the mid 1970s. Most often she was cast as a virgin or femme fatale. Haven's erotic hardcore debut was in Alex De Renzy's 1973 feature Lady Freaks. In 1977, Haven received an adult film best actress award for A Coming of Angels from the Adult Film Association of America.
She was selective about films she acted in and the other performers with whom she worked. She refused to do scenes that included bondage, violence, or "facials." Her notable work includes XRCO Hall of Fame film of Desires Within Young Girls and Sex World; other notable roles include Barbara Broadcast, V-the Hot One, and A Thousand and One Erotic Nights. Haven was elected to the XRCO's Performer Hall of Fame and to the AVN´s Hall of Fame.
Haven had a mainstream acting role in Blake Edwards's 10 as one of the porn actresses living up the hill. She was considered to play the lead female role in Body Double, which eventually went to Melanie Griffith, and became one of the consultants for the film. Prior to filming Body Double, its director Brian De Palma commented, "I'm already thinking of casting. I don't know if there's any good young porno stars out here, but the older ones - Anette Haven, Seka - some of them can really act. And Annette Haven has a terrific body."[3] She turned down a part in The Howling because of its excessive violence. At one audition for a Hollywood film, the casting director asked if she "partied." She replied, "I do sex in the part; I don't do sex for the part."[2]
Haven retired from erotic films in the late 1980s, although she reappeared in the mid 1990s to star in a couple of fetish videos with her frequent '70s costar, Jamie Gillis, and dominatrix Kim Wylde. She reportedly lives in Mill Valley, California (in Marin County), with her husband.
