Antazoline

An antihistamine used in topical preparations. Antazoline sulphate is an ingredient of eye drops for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis, such as that associated with hay fever. Antazoline hydrochloride is used in an ointment for the relief of insect stings and bites. Preparations containing antazoline can be obtained without a prescription, but only from pharmacies.

Side effects:
the ointment may cause allergic reactions.

Precautions:
the ointment should not be used for longer than three days and should not be used for treating eczema.

Proprietary preparations:
Wasp-Eze Ointment; Otrivine-Antistin (combined with xylometazoline).

Antazoline is a 1st generation antihistamine that also anticholinergic properties used to relieve nasal congestion and in eye drops, usually in combination with naphazoline, to relieve the symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis.
