  • Variant names: Anticaria, Madīnah Antakira
'Old Town', so-named by the Romans. The name may be related to anta, a local word for a dolmen, an ancient stone burial chamber. It was the first Granada border town to be recaptured by the Christians during the Reconquest in 1410.
