Biography

With his high-pitched vocals and prolific songwriting, singer Anthony Green had a hand in many bands throughout the 1990s and 2000s, including Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer, Saosin, Circa Survive, the Sound of Animals Fighting, and several smaller projects. Green was born and raised in Philadelphia, where he joined Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer in the late '90s before relocating to Southern California in 2003. There, he briefly joined the screamo outfit Saosin but ultimately left before the band signed to Capitol Records. He resurfaced with Circa Survive and remained with the group throughout the decade's latter half, during which period he also launched a solo career with the release of 2008's Avalon. ~ Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide

Career

Circa Survive

Anthony joined California rock band Saosin in 2003 but left it in early 2004 after becoming dissatisfied with the group's musical direction.[1] He then formed the Philadelphia-based Circa Survive, which immediately gained the support of Equal Vision Records. Within a year, they had released a limited edition tour EP entitled The Inuit Sessions and a full-length album entitled Juturna.

Circa Survive has embarked on many national tours, including an opening slot on Thrice and My Chemical Romance's tour and Mae's headlining tour.[2][3] The Receiving End of Sirens, Portugal. The Man, Days Away, YouInSeries and Keating, among others, tagged along. Circa released their second album entitled, On Letting Go, on May 29, 2007. Circa Survive parted with Equal Vision Records in August 2008. Circa is currently recording the third album that was said to be released some time in Spring 2010 under a new label with Atlantic Records.

The Sound of Animals Fighting

Anthony is currently part of another side project with members of Finch, Rx Bandits, Days Away, Now We Are Six, and Chiodos under the alias of The Skunk. His collaboration within this side project with contemporary musician Craig Owens (alias: Ram) has led to heated comparison of the two artists amongst fans.[4] Despite previous personal issues with Owens, the two have performed a duet together.[5] Green and Owens shared cover stories for Alternative Press in September 2008.[6][7]

Solo work

In December 2005, Green embarked on a mini solo tour, opening for Fred Mascherino (ex Taking Back Sunday, as The Color Fred) including a stop in his hometown, Philadelphia, PA on December 27, 2005, which was recorded in full. The set included some Circa Survive songs and some of his own.[8]

After announcing his first solo album called Avalon, Green played three acoustic shows towards the end of December 2007 to give fans a taste of what the album will be like. During the 2008 SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas, he played two daytime shows (including the Alternative Press party) as part of a five-date mini tour [9]. On the Austin dates, he was accompanied by the band Good Old War.

Avalon was released in August 2008, peaking at #44 on the Billboard 200 in the United States.[10]

In August and September 2008, he embarked on his first solo tour in support of Avalon. Members of Good Old War again served as his backing band, but also played their own set as openers of the tour. The main support act was Person L, the solo project of fellow Pennsylvania native Kenny Vasoli, singer of The Starting Line.

Green has made it clear this was only a side project and something he has "always wanted to do." He plans to remain active in Circa Survive and has stated that the band encouraged him to do something with all the songs he had been working on. According to Green's MySpace page, the CD was titled Avalon after Avalon, New Jersey where he recorded the majority of the songs.

Green has stated on his website, that after Circa Survive is done recording their third studio album, he will begin working on his follow up to Avalon titled "Beautiful Things".
