Career

Pratt graduated from Monash University, Melbourne, with a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) in 1983. After graduation, he joined the consulting firm of McKinsey & Co, before joining Visy as Joint General Manager of Visy Board.[4]

In 1988, he became Deputy Chairman of Pratt Industries; taking over as Chairman and CEO following the 2009 death of his father, Richard.

In 1991, Pratt moved to the United States to lead the company’s expansion into America and in that time has overseen the acquisition of several corrugated manufacturing companies which now form the heart of Pratt Industries. Since his arrival, the company has grown sevenfold in sales and earnings and now employs more than 3,000 workers at mills and box plants throughout USA; in addition to more than 5,000 employees in Australia. Pratt Industries (as the Visy is known in the USA) employs more Americans than any other Australian company.[4] When Pratt moved to the US in 1991, Pratt Industries revenues were US$100 million; and by 2011 revenue was US$1 billion.[3]

Personal life

Pratt sits on the National Board of the Muhammad Ali Museum and Education Center in Louisville, Kentucky, and is also active in numerous charity organizations throughout Australia and the United States. In 2000, he arranged for Muhammad Ali to visit Australia.[5]

Pratt is committed to environmental causes, and is a member of the Climate Group, a leading international environmental group founded by former British prime minister Tony Blair. He has been honoured for his efforts by Mikhail Gorbachev's Global Green USA and Ted Turner's Captain Planet Foundation. Pratt is a member of the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney.[4]

In 1997, Pratt married Alison Giske in New York,[2] however later separated. Another marriage failed.[6] By 2011 it was reported that Pratt was returning to Australia with his partner, Claudine Revere, and their two children, Leon and Lilly.[3]
