Anti-literacy law is legislation outlawing the teaching of literacy to a group or groups of people.
Anti-literacy law was in force in many Confederate states before and during the American Civil War regarding slaves, freedmen, and in some cases all people of color[1]. These largely came into force following the Nat Turner Slave Rebellion.
