Established in 1987 with Robert Ross as editor is the official journal of AAALS, the American Association of Australian Literary Studies. Published twice a year, it is supported in part by the Literature Board of the Australia Council and the Information and Cultural Relations Branch of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Each issue contains a selection of previously unpublished poetry and fiction by both acclaimed and new Australian writers. Interviews with writers are also regularly published. Antipodes has an extensive book reviews section and a comprehensive bibliography of Australian writing as well as critical essays on topics such as 'Australian/American Literary Connections', 'Australian Literature in an International Context' and 'Women's Writing in Australia'.
