Schnack, Anton (Rieneck, 1892-1973, Kahl/Main), a journalist in Darmstadt, Mannheim, and Frankfurt, served in both world wars. He began with poetry, Strophen der Gier (1919) and Tier rang gewaltig mit Tier (1920), containing 60 war sonnets, the quality of which has been compared to Wilfred Owen (P. Bridgwater). He later found a very different style in deftly written, light-hearted stories, which include Kleines Lesebuch, Die fünfzehn Abenteuer (both 1935), Begegnungen am Abend (1940), Mädchenmedaillons (1946), Phantastische Geographie (1949), Die Reise aus Sehnsucht (1954), and Flirt mit dem Alltag (1956). His early fiction contains the novels Zugvögel der Liebe (1936) and Der finstere Franz. Eine Seeräubergeschichte (1937). He was a brother of F. Schnack.
