A violinist and organist, he was active in Bratislava by 1772 and in 1776 became Kapellmeister and court composer to Count Joseph Batthyany; the court orchestra reached a high standard under his direction. His compositions include many symphonies and other orchestral pieces, melodramas, and sacred works. At least two of his symphonies have been confused with Haydn's.
