Antonines

Antonines, a collective name for the Roman emperors Antoninus Pius, his adopted son Marcus Aurelius, and the latter's son Commodus, who reigned successively from AD 138 to 192. Antoninus' reign was proverbially peaceful and happy, and the age of the Antonines was part of the period, including also the reigns of Trajan (98–117) and Hadrian (117–38), when the Roman empire reached its greatest extent and its peak of prosperity.

Antonines (ăn'tənīnz), collective name of certain Roman emperors of the 2d cent., namely Antoninus Pius; his adopted sons, Marcus Aurelius and Verus; and Commodus.
