(psychology) A psychoneurotic disorder characterized by diffuse anxious expectation not restricted to definite situations, persons, or objects, and by emotional instability, irritability, apprehensiveness, and a sense of fatigue; caused by incomplete resolution of repressed emotional problems, and frequently associated with somatic symptoms.
