Anzhero-Sudzhensk

  (än-zhĕr'ə-sʊd-zhĕnsk', -sūd'zhĭnsk') pronunciation

A city of south-central Russia northeast of Novosibirsk. It is one of the oldest coal-mining centers in the Kuznetsk Basin. Population: 84,600.

(ənzhĕ'rə–sū'jĕnsk) , city (1989 pop. 108,000), SW Siberian Russia, on the Trans-Siberian RR. One of the oldest and largest coal-mining centers of the Kuznetsk Basin, the city was developed as a source of coal for the railroad. Mining equipment, window glass, and pharmaceuticals are manufactured there.

Anzhero-Sudzhensk (Russian: Анже́ро-Су́дженск) is a town in the Kuznetsk Basin in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia. The town, which was formed out of the amalgamation of the Anzherka and Sudzhenka settlements, is located to the north of the oblast's administrative center Kemerovo and to the east of the Tom River. It is on the route of the Trans-Siberian Railway

Population: 86,480 (2002 Census).
