Aodh De Blácam

De Blácam, Aodh (1890-1951), literary historian and novelist. Born in London, son of a Newry MP, he learnt Irish there and, moving to Ireland, became a prominent figure in nationalist politics. His fiction draws on Irish myth and history. His short-story collections and novels include The Ship That Sailed Too Soon (1919), The Druid's Cave (1921), and Patsy the Codologist (1922). Holy Romans (1920) is a semi-autobiographical tale. His poetry was published as Dornán Dán (1917) and Songs and Satires (1920). Gaelic Literature Surveyed (1921) is a critical evaluation of Gaelic literature.
