Apis in Greek mythology was the king of Apia a ruler in the long line of
rulers of Sicyon. He was the son of either Phoroneus and the
nymph Teledice, or Phoroneus and Peitho, or of Phoroneus and Cinna, or of Apollo,
or of Telchis. He became a tyrant and was murdered by Thelxion
and Telchis (in this version he was childless). In other versions of his tale, Apis was the son of Telchis and the father of
Thelxion. Upon his death he was revered as a god, Sarapis. Another version of his death says that Aetolus, son of
Argus Panoptes, the descendant of his sister Niobe avenged his murder by putting Thelxion and Telchis to death.
