A test used to assess a knee injury. With the patient lying in the prone position and the thigh firmly anchored, the knee is flexed to 90°. Using the patient's foot as a lever, the lower leg is rotated internally and externally, first with distraction and then with compression. Pain on distraction suggests ligamentous injury: pain on compression or ‘grinding’ indicates a meniscus tear.
