Review

The Apologetic Sound takes the languid, minimal constructions of its predecessor, The Red Carpet Parlay of the Decade, a step further into itself; the album's opener, "Halfway House," comes across as a far more earthy and grounded take on Red House Painters' sort of work, and while parts of the record veer into pop territory, its real strength is with achingly slow and minimal balladry. Some of the songs' jazzy leanings help the band find a voice that's entirely its own, making the record slightly more appealing than The Red Carpet..., which was, on the whole, a more "normal" release. ~ Nitsuh Abebe, Rovi
