Appleby is a small village in North Lincolnshire, England. The population, as enumerated in the 2001 census, was 597. It is about 5 km to the northeast of Scunthorpe, on the B1207 road.
Popular culture
Appleby is the home of a professional Quidditch team operating within the fictional Harry Potter universe. The Appleby Arrows are one of only thirteen Quidditch teams that have been playing in the professional league of Britain and Ireland that was established in 1674. The team players wear robes of pale blue emblazoned with a silver arrow. Their traditional rivalry is with the Wimbourne Wasps.[1]
