Digital Angel, Inc. (NASDAQ: DIGA) develops global positioning satellite (GPS) and radio frequency identification (RFID) technology products for consumer, commercial, and government sectors worldwide. Headquartered in Delray Beach, Florida, their products include RFID applications, end-to-end food safety systems, GPS/Satellite communications, and telecommunication, security infrastructure and the controversial Verichip human implant.
Applications for this burgeoning technology include people, pets, wildlife and livestock identification using implantable microchips, scanners and antennas. Digital Angel has manufactured RFID microchips for millions of pets throughout the world, providing them with unalterable and permanent identification should they become lost or stolen. Digital Angel makes RFID products for farmers, ranchers, sale barns and other livestock producers to identify and track animals.
ADS and its subsidiaries, including VeriChip Corporation, have developed several kinds of implantable subdermal chips. One type is the FDA-approved VeriChip, that spits out the implantee's ID number when it is scanned by a chip reader. Another is the VeriPay device which carries financial information and is scanned like a debit card. People in Europe are now being implanted with VeriPay chips in order to enter bars and nightclubs.(
Digital Angel has developed GPS search and rescue beacons that integrate geosynchronous communications for use by the military and the private sector to track aircraft, ships and other high value assets.

Mr. Grillo, an RFID industry veteran, is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of the Global Technologies Division of Assa Abloy, AB, a publicly held global manufacturer in the security and lock industry. Prior to being named to head up Assa Abloy’s Global Tech Division, Mr. Grillo worked in the Identification Technology business unit, combining several disparate RFID and smart card businesses into one organization servicing several vertical markets with security based card, transponder and reader products. Mr. Grillo was a long-time executive and early founder of HID Global Corp., which he joined in 1993 as National Sales Manager. He later went on to assume the positions of VP of Sales, VP of Sales and Marketing and eventually COO in charge of the international sales organizations for HID. This led up to the sale of HID to current owner Assa Abloy in January 2001, upon which Mr. Grillo was named president of HID. During the 1993 to 2000 time period, he led HID sales organization in growing the company from $3 million to $92 million in annual sales. Mr. Grillo has held positions with progressively increasing levels of responsibility at a number of industry leaders. From 1981 to 1993, he held sales and management roles with Security Specialists (acquired by TYCO), National Control Systems (acquired by ITI, now part of GE) and Kidde Automated Systems (eventually acquired by TYCO).
