US Military Dictionary: Appomattox Campaign

(March 29- April 9, 1865) the name given to the final operations of the Civil War, including the battles of Fort Stedman and Five Forks. It began with Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's attempt to break out of his defensive position in Petersburg, Virginia, and ended with his surrender at Appomattox on April 9, 1865.
