apurinic-apyrimidinic (AP) endonuclease
Enzyme involved in the excision repair mechanism of DNA. The enzyme nicks the phosphodiester backbone at the depurinized site and excises the sugar phosphate residue, prior to restoration of the damaged strand by the action of DNA polymerase I and ligase.
