Main sights

The Gruta de las Maravillas is located in the town and is one of the most spectacular cave systems in Spain. The caves are located below the hill on which stands Aracena Castle. The caves are said to have been found by a boy looking for a lost pig. Several caverns and lakes are linked by narrow passages. Coloured lighting adds to the effects of the unusual formations of minerals. In the complex is a geological museum.

Other sights in the town include the Priory Church, built over the ruins of a castle in the 12th-15th centuries. The oldest sections are in late Gothic-Mudéjar style. Also in the town is the church of Santa María de la Asunción, built in 1522
