Aramark Limited, known commonly as Aramark, is an American food, facilities, and clothing provider, supplying businesses, courts, educational institutions, health care providers, and armed forces. It is headquartered in Center City Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[1]

Aramark is the 219th largest employer on the FORTUNE 500[2]. Since 1968 in Mexico City, the company has provided services at 14 Olympic Games, including Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008. They have also been the subject of a number of disputes regarding labor practices and business ethics.[3][4]

History

  • In 1936, Davre Davidson begins the Los Angeles company that will eventually become Aramark.
  • In 1959, the company becomes ARA (Automatic Retailers of America)
  • In 1969, ARA officially becomes ARA Services, to reflect its growing range of businesses.
  • In 1983, Joseph Neubauer is elected CEO of ARA Services.
  • In 1994, ARA Services changes its name to Aramark.
  • In 2001, Aramark returns to the New York Stock Exchange as a public company under the RMK ticker.
  • In 2004, Aramark acquired a 90% stake in the Ireland catering company Campbell Catering.
  • In 2006, a group of investors led by Neubauer proposed the acquisition of all outstanding shares of the Aramark Corporation, which was approved by shareholders.
  • In January 2007, the merger is completed.
