International media research firm that provides electronic media, advertisers, and advertising agencies with information regarding the measurement of radio audiences in local markets across the United States and surveys of retail, media, and product patterns of local market consumers; also offers survey research consulting and methodological services to cable, telecommunications, direct broadcast satellite, on-line, and new media industries. Owned by the Ceridian Corporation since 1960, the Arbitron Company employs 530 full-time employees and maintains its executive offices in New York City. In addition to its presence in the U.S. Media information market, Arbitron also owns Continental Research in London, England, which conducts market research in the media, advertising, financial, and telecommunications industries in the United Kingdom and Europe.
