Dictionary of Dance: Arch Lauterer

Lauterer, Arch (b 1904, d Oakland, Calif., 1957). US set and lighting designer. He based his principles of design on Appia's writings, using light and architectural forms to create a fluid, uncluttered space for dance. He taught at Bennington College (1933-43) and collaborated with many choreographers, including Graham, Humphrey, Holm, and Weidman.
