Archaic age

 
 

Archaic age, name given to one of the five periods of the Greek era (defined on the basis of pottery styles). It begins c.620 BC and ends in 480. Compare PROTO-GEOMETRIC, GEOMETRIC, ORIENTALIZING, and CLASSICAL. The term Archaic age is sometimes used more widely to describe the period from c.750 to 480 BC.
