Playing career

Mitchell began his playing career with Aston Villa but failed to make an appearance and moved to Queens Park Rangers, then of the Southern Football League. He was a regular for QPR and also made six appearances for the league's representative side.[1] Mitchell, by then a veteran, was still in the QPR side when they joined the Football League Third Division in 1920 and made 35 appearances.

Management career

He ended his career after the 1921-22 season when he played for Brentford. Mitchell was also player-manager at the club and remained in charge until December 1922, by which time he had quit playing. In 1931 Bob Hewison left his position as QPR manager and was replaced by John Bowman but Bowman had to step down soon afterwards due to ill-health. As a result Mitchell was appointed manager.[2] He remained as manager until 1933 when he was replaced by Mick O'Brien.
