Archie Yelle
Archie Joseph Yelle (June 11, 1892 - May 2, 1983) was a right-handed baseball catcher who played three seasons in the American League for the Detroit Tigers (1917-1919) and seven years in the Pacific Coast League for the San Francisco Seals. Born in Saginaw, Michigan, Yelle was a weak-hitting catcher who hit .161 in 87 games for the Tigers.
After being released by the Tigers, Yelled played for the San Francisco Seals in the Pacific Coast League from 1920-1926. In 1922, Yelle helped lead the Seals to a league championship with a record of 127-72. Yelle split catching duties with another former major league player, Sam Agnew. In 1922, Yelle batted .254 in 108 games. [1] In 1925, the Seals were 128-71, winning another PCL title. That year, Yelle hit .267 and was chosen by The Sporting News as the catcher for the PCL All Star Team. [2]
Yelle died in Woodland, California in 1983 at age 90. He was laid to rest at Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland.
