Biography

Arlen Roth has been a respected rock guitarist since the '60s, when he used to release solo recordings. He eventually became a fairly well-known sideman, performing with artists as diverse as Pete Seeger, Rick Wakeman, and Paul Simon. On top of that, he also became an instructional guitarist with a series of educational videotapes covering a wide range of styles. His obvious talent for the guitar and teaching it has led him to a successful career without having to attach himself to a group or pop success. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide

Arlen Roth (born 1952) is an American guitarist. His first solo album won the Montreaux Critics' Award for Best Instrumental Album of the Year in 1978.[citation needed] He was Guitar Player magazine's top columnist from 1982 to 1992. He has performed with artists such as Bob Dylan, Danny Gatton, John Entwistle, John Prine, Rick Wakeman, Paul Simon (also Simon and Garfunkel), Steve Morse, Albert Lee and Phoebe Snow.[1] Roth is a Telecaster enthusiast, and has written the book Masters of the Telecaster, which details the techniques and licks of many famous Telecaster guitar players.[2][3]

Roth coached Ralph Macchio in the performance of most of his guitar parts for the 1986 movie Crossroads.

Roth lost both his wife, Deborah, and oldest daughter, Gillian MacKenzie Roth (b.1983) in an auto accident in 1998.

He currently hosts a series of daily video lessons at Gibson.com.[4]

He performs frequently with his younger daughter, Lexie Roth.
