The ArmaLite AR-50 is a single shot bolt action rifle manufactured by Armalite utilizing a unique octagonal receiver bedded into an aluminum stock. It is equipped with a modified M16 type vertical pistol grip and a removable buttstock for ease of transport. The AR-50 in chambered for the .50 BMG cartridge. Rifles of this caliber are generally considered anti-materiel rifles for military use, though they have more recently been used as long-range sniper rifles.

At roughly 34 pounds (15.5 kg) and 59.5 inches (151 cm) in length, this rifle is designed for use with a bipod. Recoil is very mild due to the weight and the excellent muzzle brake. As with any .50 BMG caliber firearm, however, one should have excellent hearing protection when firing or observing.

The AR-50 has never been adopted by any military. It was designed as a long range target rifle for civilians and is marketed as a less expensive option for .50 caliber shooting.
