Established in July 1973 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, as the U.S. Army Administration Center, the U.S. Army Soldier Support Institute, a U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command activity given its current name in August 1984 and that underwent several reorganizations before moving to Fort Jackson, South Carolina, in September 1995. USASSI integrates the training and doctrinal development activities of the U.S. Army Adjutant General, Finance, and Recruiting and Retention Schools, the U.S. Army Non-Commissioned Officers Academy, and the U.S. Army element of the School of Music.
