Arnold Elston

(b New York, 30 Sept 1907; d Vienna, 6 June 1971). American composer. He studied with Goldmark (1928-30) and Webern (1932-5), and taught at the University of Oregon (1941-58) and at Berkeley (1958-71). His works include a chamber opera Sweeney Agonistes (1950), much choral music and chamber works, notably a String Quartet (1961) and a Piano Trio (1967).
