The legendary Duchess Du Barry is the focal point of this Pathe historical drama. At the outbreak of the French revolution, Du Barry is called upon to lead the royalists against the Republicans. Forsaking her fancy clothes and fancier sweethearts, she heads to the battlefield, where in addition to fighting valiantly she selflessly tends to the wounded. Alas, a faithless servant, hoping to collect the reward posted by the Republicans for DuBarry's capture, betrays his mistress. DuBarry is captured and whisked off to the Bastille. While the story of DuBarry was familiar to French filmgoers, American audiences tended to be confused by the severely telescoped chronology. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
