History

1970s

The cantons of Sens-Nord-Est, Sens-Ouest and Sens-Sud-Est resulted from the reorganization of the old cantons of:

Before 1926

From 1800 (year VIII on the French Republican Calendar) until 1926, the arrondissement included all the current cantons, except Cerisiers, Saint-Julien-du-Sault and Villeneuve-sur-Yonne, which were part of the old arrondissement of Joigny.
