History
1970s
The cantons of Sens-Nord-Est, Sens-Ouest and Sens-Sud-Est resulted from the reorganization of the old cantons of:
- Sens-Nord:
- Fontaine-la-Gaillarde, Maillot, Malay-le-Grand, Malay-le-Petit, Noé, Passy, Rosoy (commune supprimée), Saint-Clément, Saligny, Sens (parts of the commune), Soucy, Vaumort and Véron.
- Sens-Sud:
- Collemiers, Cornant, Courtois-sur-Yonne, Égriselles-le-Bocage, Étigny, Gron, Marsangy, Nailly, Paron, Saint-Denis, Saint-Martin-du-Tertre, Sens (parts of the commune) and (to be checked) Subligny.
Before 1926
From 1800 (year VIII on the French Republican Calendar) until 1926, the arrondissement included all the current cantons, except Cerisiers, Saint-Julien-du-Sault and Villeneuve-sur-Yonne, which were part of the old arrondissement of Joigny.
