In Art of Darkness, it can be seen that some of the most venerable art institutions were established with fortunes made through trade in human beings, or slavery. Highly respectable repositories of some of the finest collections in the world -- the British Museum, the Tate Gallery, and the National Gallery -- fall into this category. Those wealthy enough to amass priceless works of art were also masters of slaves imported from the Caribbean Islands. When these unfortunate laborers were depicted in art, they were clothed in silks and other rich materials, and falsely portrayed as happy with their lot. ~ Alice Day, Rovi
