Corporate history, acquisitions

1991: ATG is cofounded by Jeet Singh and Joseph Chung, both graduates of MIT,[3] and grows quickly as an early leader in Java-based Internet technologies

1991-1996: Leveraging the founders' previous work at the MIT Media Labs, ATG delivered consulting services for building Web sites

1997-1998: ATG transitioned to a software company offering several products including an Application Server and an e-commerce platform with personalization technology

1999: ATG made its initial public offering.

2000-2003: Focused on commerce applications, business tools for content management, merchandising, marketing and analytics; shift to industry standard application servers from IBM, BEA and JBoss.

2004: Having established itself as the leader in e-commerce software applications, ATG acquired Primus Knowledge Solutions[4] in a disputed[5][6] acquisition that closed on November 1, 2004. ATG expanded its offering with Primus' products: knowledge management for the contact center, self-service solutions and e-mail response systems

2005: ATG completed the integration of the Primus applications onto the ATG Web marketing and ecommerce software platform

2006: Citing the growing importance of the call center's impact on e-commerce conversion rates, in October 2006 ATG acquired eStara[7][8], a provider of click to call, chat and call tracking solutions.

2007: ATG invested in new advanced e-commerce features including "Searchandising" capabilities, Customer Intelligence and introduced the ATG Commerce Service Center.

2008: ATG acquired privately held CleverSet[9][10]; the transaction closed on February 6, 2008. CleverSet's patented technology known as "statistical relational learning" assesses what site content and product recommendations are best for a given customer; following the acquisition this technology became ATG Recommendations, a SaaS product that automatically delivers recommendations incorporating the real time click-stream behavior of the visitor as it occurs.
