arteriolae rectae

(rĕk'')
pl.n.

Branches of the arcuate arteries of the kidney, arising at the bases of the pyramids, running through the renal medulla toward the apex of each pyramid, then reversing direction back toward the base of each pyramid. Also called vasa recta.
