Arthur D. Levinson (born March 31, 1950, in Seattle, Washington, United States) is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Genentech. He held these positions from July 1995 to April 31, 2009. He was named chairman of the board of directors in 1999. He is also a Corporate Director of both Apple Inc. and Google.

Education
He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1972, and his PhD in Biochemistry from Princeton University in 1977. He subsequently moved to a postdoctoral position with Michael Bishop and Harold Varmus in the Department of Microbiology at UCSF[1], from where he was hired to Genentech by Herb Boyer.

On April 14, 2009, following Genentech's $47 billion merger with Swiss drug maker Roche, Levinson announced he will leave day-to-day operations of the South San Francisco-based biotech powerhouse. He will lead Genentech’s new board of directors and steer the integration of Genentech into Roche. The board will include Roche executives as well as external members. Levinson also will be an advisor to Genentech’s research and early development center and will join the Scientific Resource Board, Genentech’s external advisory group. Levinson will be nominated as a member of the board of Roche Holding Ltd. at the 2010 shareholder general meeting.
Personal Life
His father is Sol Levinson and mother is Malvina. He is married to Rita May Liff since 17 December 1978 and has two children.[3]
