Asano Station was opened on March 10, 1926 on the privately-held Tsurumi Rinkō Railway (鶴見臨港鉄道 Tsurumi Rinkō Tetsudō) initially for freight operations only. Passenger services began on October 28, 1930. The Tsurumi Rinkō line was nationalized on July 1, 1943, and was later absorbed into the Japan National Railways (JNR) network. The station has been unstaffed since March 1, 1971. Upon the privatization of the JNR on April 1, 1987 the station has been operated by JR East.
