The ASB Classic is a tennis tournament held in Auckland, New Zealand. Held since 1986, this WTA Tour event is an International series tournament and is played on outdoor hardcourts. The tournament takes place during the first week of the year, one week before another ASB Tennis Centre event, men's Heineken Open.

At the 2008 tournament, the courts were changed to a blue plexicushion surface, replacing the green Rebound Ace. This was consistent with the surface change that was also implemented at the Australian Open.

The 2012 field, announced on Wednesday 23^rd November 2011, is said to be the best field the tournament has seen- with 8 players from the top 30 WTA rankings. It included Peng Shuai, Sabine Lisicki, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Julia Görges.

Zheng Jie is the current champion, having defeated Flavia Pennetta in the 2012 final

Gréta Arn stunned 4 seeded players to pick up the 2011 singles trophy

Former World No.1 Jelena Janković was the singles champion in 2007

Marion Bartoli won the singles event here in 2006

Eleni Daniilidou has won the singles title twice here- in 2003 and 2004

Cara Black has two doubles titles here- winning in 2000 and 2010

Former World No.1, 3-time Grand Slam Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Lindsay Davenport won the singles title in 2008
