(ASCII alphaBETICAL) In ASCII order, which is not alphanumeric. In ASCII, upper case letters are grouped separately from lower case (see ASCII chart), and special characters are located before, in between and after the letters. If dictionaries and glossaries are maintained in ASCIIbetical order for an electronic version, the terms have to be converted into alphanumeric order for printing, which treats upper and lower case letters the same. A lexicographic sort may also be used for printing, although very often, numbers are placed at the beginning or end of the book. See lexicographic sort.
