‘eastern cottage(s)’, OE ēast + cot: Ascot Windsor & Maidenhead Estcota (1177). Ascott under Wychwood Oxfordshire Estcot (1220). Affix means ‘near the forest of Wychwood’ (an OE name, Huiccewudu (840), meaning ‘wood of a tribe called the Hwicce’).
