The name given to participants within the futures market that are involved in the solicitation or facilitation of transacting customer orders, the maintenance of discretionary accounts, or the true participatory involvement in the futures market.

1. any person in the securities business who is affiliated with a Nasdaq member firm, whether or not the person is registered or exempt from registration with NASD. Differs from associate member, which is an American Stock Exchange term for a firm that has purchased the right to place orders through a regular member but does not own a Seat and is not permitted to trade for its own account on the exchange floor.

2. a person registered with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (Cftc) or the National Futures Association (Nfa) who solicits orders, customers, or customer funds on behalf of a futures commission merchant, an introducing broker, a commodity trading advisor, or a commodity pool operator.
