The one-man band of Astro Boy was started as a side for Shapeshifter Legacy noisemaker Ady Gordon -- who had no idea that there was a Japanese cartoon from the 1970s under the same name. By using a variety of synthesizers, drum machines, tape loops, Commodore 64 noises, and even a Speak and Spell, Gordon would record a number of experimental sounds on a four-track recorder that would result in a number of demo releases. Ennui Tapes would eventually release two full-lengths -- including 1999's Hex and 2000's In the Ghost of Your Mind -- before the Belgium-based Morc Records followed with the 2001 EP Innocent Tears. ~ Mike DaRonco, Rovi
