Athenian tribute lists

Classical Literature Companion: Athenian tribute lists

tribute lists, Athenian, name given to a series of fragmentary inscriptions on stone of the fifth century BC, recovered from the Athenian Acropolis, relating to the finances of the Delian League. They record the sum of money paid each year by each allied city in the Delian League to (the treasurers of) the goddess Athena. Modern historians have elicited a great deal of political and social information from the lists.
