This could be the perfect gift for that young relative itching to get a good overview of vintage rock history; Atlantic, being one of the original titans of the stuff, is certainly not a bad place to start. Roughly covering a period from the late '60s to the late '80s, this three-disc set offers most of the usual suspects (Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Bad Company, et al.), while throwing in some fairly askew booty by the likes of Phil Collins, Stevie Nicks, and Julian Lennon. Yes, they're all on Atlantic, but this is a shoe-in for a bad eclecticism award; that young friend might have a rough time reconciling shifts from AC/DC to Mike & the Mechanics to a few slices of hair metal. Then again, this might just be the primer he or she needs to navigate the ever-widening playing field that is modern rock. You decide then, as the strains of "Solsbury Hill" collide with "Miss You." ~ Stephen Cook, Rovi
